Why does my iPhone screen wake up randomly when it's just sitting flat on a table?

This is driven by your notification settings or the built-in "Raise to Wake" feature tracking slight vibrations. If your table vibrates or moving objects pass near the screen, the proximity sensors can activate. Turning off "Raise to Wake" under Display & Brightness stops this.
