Over time, pocket lint packs tightly into the bottom of the Lightning or USB-C chamber. Turn off the phone and use a non-conductive wooden or plastic toothpick to gently scrape the inner floor of the port. Avoid metal needles, which can permanently short out or bend the golden data pins.
